about

“Drumheart feat. Anil Sebastian” (out 25th May) is the second single to be lifted from the celebrated Hang player, drummer and percussionist Manu Delago’s ‘Silver Kobalt’ album, which came out on 6th April to support from i-D, Wax Poetics and DJ Mag, and tastemaker radio play including Nitin Sawhney (BBC R2), Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), Don Letts (BBC 6Music), Jazz Line Up (BBC R3) and Jamie Cullum (who has booked Delago for a BBC R2 Maida Vale session in May). Additional high profile media coverage in the US, Japan and across Europe cements the widespread appeal of what is a truly experimental brand of pop music, crafted by an artist who counts Björk, The Cinematic Orchestra, Anoushka Shankar and Andreya Triana among his fans and collaborators.

Having spent the last month in New York where he provided the backbone of Björk’s live band, alongside Arca, in the Icelandic legend’s ‘Vulnicura’ shows, Manu Delago kicked off his own live run with three sold out nights at Rockwood Music Hall, NYC, in early April. His return to Europe brings an extensive ‘Silver Kobalt’ tour with his live outfit Manu Delago Handmade, including support slots for The Cinematic Orchestra (April-May; see dates overleaf).

“Drumheart feat. Anil Sebastian” is a pristine drop of bassy pop that showcases Delago’s breadth of influences and deft touch. The ethereal timbre of the Hang vies for prominence with a subtly swelling drum and bass beat for a delicately powerful and propulsive soundscape laced with the haunting, androgynous vocals of Anil Sebastian, a rising star who has also graced the performances of Basement Jaxx and Alt-J. This digital single release also brings a bonus cut in the shape of “Drumheart feat. Anil Sebastian (Copenhagen Version)”, an exclusive alternate version of the lead track with the added punch of heavier, live acoustic drums.
